This Spined Micrathena spider looks like something out of a horror story, and pretty sure I've seen an anthropomorphized version in a movie somewhere. This "aphid lion" is the larvae of a species of Lacewing. It stacks the bodies of the vanquished on its back.

Just playing around with color gels on Godox flashes on a raw Petoskey Stone. The last pic was using the diffusers, and I should have kept them on I think to get light bounce into different areas. This is a stacked and cropped image of a combination of playing around with angles of flashes, and power of each flash.
Ordered the MF12 Macro light rig, and a 3rd light so I can position lights all around subject. Still need to try out all my options with this as I am just using reflectors off the 3 flashes, no diffuser as I have no way to mount them yet. Hopefully this weekend I'll have a system done up that will allow me to mount some diffusers. Also going to try to make some "vinegar bottle" DIY ones.
Not sure if I will continue this in blog format, or move to somewhat organized pages. For now just want a place to dump pics I don't upload to iNaturalist. I finally got a macro lens and am loving just walking around the yard taking different shots of bug, moths or even flowers.
