Targets for the remainder of the year.

2 and a half months of trying to pick off relatively rare birds is what I am up against for the rest of the year.  I thought Snow Bunting is probably the most likely to get picked off before the end of the year.  According to eBird Red-necked Grebe and Franklin's Gull are just as likely.  

The 15 birds that eBird has, in order of likelihood (underlined would be new County birds for me, in red would be new birds for the County):

1. Snow Bunting (lots of driving around farmlands) (Code 2)
2. Red-necked Grebe (Duck Lake, or any other lake) (Code 3)
3. Franklin's Gull (Hopefully we get another run of these through here like last year, even if they only lasted for a day) (Code 4)
4. Common Redpoll (Baker Sanctuary is probably my best bet) (Code 2)
5. Lesser Black-backed Gull (Duck Lake or the Dump) (Code 3)
6. Red-throated Loon (Duck Lake) (Code 5)
7. Common Gallinule (Cranefest had one this past week, hopefully it stays till Saturday) (Code 2)
8. White-rumped Sandpiper (Eaton County has one.  I need to get to the WTPs and check) (Code 4)
9. Glaucous Gull (Duck Lake or the Dump) (Code 4)
10. Short-eared Owl (Have to keep checking farmlands.  I marked an Amish farm with a checklist this summer that showed some potential) (Code 2)
11. Northern Saw-whet Owl (Hart's Lake, Baker, and a few other spots.  Mackinac Straits Raptor watch has reported quite a few coming through) (Code 4)
12. Greater White-fronted Goose (Duck Lake, and Homer) (Code 2)
13. Clay-colored Sparrow (iffy at best.  Woodland Park, should I decide to visit there besides going to the other spots on this list) (Code 3)
14. Snowy Owl (airport, or other farmland spots) (Code 2)
15. Northern Bobwhite (not a chance) (Code 2)

Other ones I'd throw out there are:

1. Short-billed Dowitcher (maybe along with the White-rumped) (Code 4)
2. Red-necked Phalarope (Homer, or Duck Lake) would be a county first (Code 5)
3. Northern Shrike (random driving around) (Code 2)
4. White-winged Scoter (Duck Lake) would be a county first (Code 2)
5. Great Black-backed Gull (Duck Lake, Goguac Lake, Dump) would be a county first (Code 5)

I think 205 is doable with a Snow Bunting and a gull or owl as the other.  Extreme luck is going to be required to get to 209, or 210.  Stranger things have happened.  I need to just keep doing what I have been doing.  Know my targets, and know what places I need to go to look for them.
