One of the rarer birds that will show up in Calhoun County. There have been only two sightings, through 2015. 14 birds in Barnes Park, Albion, and a lone bird at the Homer WTP. These birds have been associated with large flocks of Canada Geese during wintertime.
These birds are similar to the Domesticated Greylag Geese that can be located at Homer Lake, downtown Albion and Irving Park in Battle Creek. One big difference is the noticeable pot belly on the Domestic Geese. The Greater White-fronted Goose will have a more sleek look to it.
Look through groups of Canada Geese during the winter to try to locate one of these. The bright orange legs, and beak will stand out, as will the white on the face near the bill.
